Look at Matt’s Big Smile !!! He was BIG DOG today landing several Big Chopper Blues all by himself.

Headed out today with Dave, Matthew and Ronnie

Ronnie, Matt and Dave

We got to the boat by 5:30 AM and we pushed off looking for some Peanut Bunkers . I stopped off at one of my spots and I filled the well and we were off

This is always allot of fun for kids, it’s like having an live Aquarium on the boat and Matt took full advantage of this

Matt Playing in the live well

Our 1st drift in the inlet I was using a brand new Chartreuse Blue Frog Buck tail and Brand new yellow Josh Bam I’m on the fish runs a little then the line goes slack, lost my new buck tail and all 1st cast DAM IT!!! Just then Matthew pole doubles over and we thought he caught the bottom … I grabbed the rod and said Matt thats not the bottom you have a very BIG FISH, REEL!!! Young Matt does his best and lands the BIG BLUE you see above. Here take a look at the video

After that everyone started landing BIG CHOPPER BLUES with double headers but Matt still was had the biggest fish and he was all smiles about that.

Ronnie and Dave Double Header Blues

This went on till 9am ish as we tried all over for the Striped Bass but could not get through the BIG CHOPPER BLUES. This was okay because we had allot of action until the tide died and Matthew wanted to go home. He didn’t want no one to beat his Big Fish and he knew the longer we stayed out, his chances of retaining 1st place diminishes with every drift. So we called it a day as everyone had to go to work and or do things at home. Matt you Rock and your the BIG DOG today

Under Water Video of Peanut Bunkers and Molnar’s 2nd Fluke Shoot Out Sat Aug 14 2010

Molnar's Fluke Shoot Out

Molnar’s 2nd Fluke Shoot Out of 2010 was Saturday, Steve Boyd, Chris Nappe and myself headed out looking to catch a big fluke and win some money . Chris told me to bring my cast net. We pushed off the dock and found the mother load of peanut bunker with 1 good cast I rounded up about 100 and into the live well they went . Big Fluke love live bait and we had a well full of it, I was thinking to myself. OH BOY IS THIS GOING TO BE GREAT!!!

Peanut Bunker in the live well

Small craft advisory kept everyone in the bay and we were the 1st boat in the inlet. It started off slow and we moved over to the east cut by the bread basket, I was bouncing my 1.5oz white/green Blue Frog Buck tail tipped with squid and spearing with a teaser made by Harvey on my Capt.Neil rod.

Harvey's Teasers

Capt.Neil Fluke Rod

Chris and Steve were catching many fluke and I wasn’t ??? I had 1 pole with a live bunker in one hand and bouncing my buck tail rod in the other. Steve was using Berkley Gulp Sand eel 5″ and said put this on Pablo it’s crack to fluke. I was always skeptical about that stuff because I thought real bait was best. As soon as my buck tail hit the bottom BAM fish on!!! The next drift the same thing so I started dipping the whole buck tail in the berkley gulp and BAM BAM BAM fish on. We moved to the west and fished over near some good friends Laurie and Dave

Laurie and Dave

We also saw Capt.Brad of Sameday  Came Charters

Sameday Came Capt.Brad

We also saw this Flying Boat I couldn’t believe my eyes??? Chris said he knows the guy too.

Flying Boat

Countless Short Flukes came up all day long we each had close to 50 by the time we were done. Here’s one that was just short and had to go back

Time was running out and we made one more move east again to catch the outgoing tide. On the way we saw some birds working so we stopped and picked up 2 blues we filed them up into strip baits. The fresh Blue fish was working just as good as the Berkley Gulp. All this time we didn’t have 1 keeper and now there was only 10 minutes left. We were close to the back of the inlet east side when Steve’s rod bends over and line starts zipping off.  I grab the net and put my rod in the holder, when we finally see color I say oh bluefish and put the net down. As Steve reeling the fish in I see about 6 more of them following close behind.  Steve and I say to each other man there really hungry today, look at them, looks like there trying to eat the one on the hook.  So I grab the leader and swing the fish in the boat.  Steve says what is that? It’s a blue fish I say he says I don’t think so and I check the fish for teeth and it has none so I lip it and Chris says Pablo your rod is doubled over grab it. I say either its a 10 lbs fluke or another one of those fish Steve just caught. So while I’m fighting the fish Steve releases his and as mine comes to the surface it pops off and I wasn’t able to get a picture of it. However I googled some pictures and came up with this one which was a Jack Carvelle

Jack Cervelle

So we didn’t get the BIG Fluke but we had a good time at the awards dinner over $8,000 dollars went to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place fluke along with many door prizes. It was a good day even though we didn’t win

Orient Striper Fishing Rainbow Charters Aug 10 2010

45" Bass estimated 35 plus lbs for Austin

Got invited to go fishing with Capt.Chris Buren and his 2 buddies out in Orient on Capt.Bob Rochetta’s boat of www.RainbowCharters.Net

Capt.Chris, Austin, Adam and myself started off the trip catching our live baits which was porgies. This was alot of fun as the porgies are easy to catch and there’s alot of them. After we filled the well we were off to the feeding grounds for some Trophy Striped Bass.  Austin’s live porgy was inhaled by a 45″ Striper estimated to be 35 lbs, this fish was rather skinny and Capt. Bob said it should have been closer to 45 lbs but because it was a skinny 45″ Bass we estimated 35-38 lbs we didn’t officially weigh it but it was Austin’s Personal Best and he was all smiles for the rest of the trip. After that the fishing was non existent except for 1 Big Blue that Austin caught but the rest of the night was unsuccessful. The Bass were there the problem was the current was so fast we were pushing 5 knots and could not get our baits or Bucktails in the strike zone. This was a good lesson never go fishing on the day of the New Moon or Full moon. The current usually moves to fast to make a proper presentation and you end up with no fish… However the best times are usually 3 days before or 3 days after, that always seems to be the ideal time to be fishing. The slow fishing is not typical of Orient or Capt.Bob Rochetta I’ve been out with him many times and have landed  Striper’s over 30,40 and 50 lbs over the past few years.   I didn’t even check the Moon Phase, I just jumped at the chance to fish. Thanks Capt.Chris for a good time even though it was slow, hey you can’t win them all. Congratulations Austin on your Personal Best
