Sunday Oct 24 2010 John Rosseland Charter
Sunday my Am Charter consisted of the four guys in the above picture. I told them don’t be late and they were at the boat ready to go 6 am. My plan of attack was to run west down the beach to Smith Point Pavilion and work my way back East. When we hit the inlet I guess we weren’t the only ones with this Idea for there was about 10 boats all ready there and more coming every minute. Good Buddy Capt.Chris Burien was all ready there and he had 2 Bass to 22 lbs all ready so we decided to give it a shot. By the time we did our 3rd drift there was close to 20 boats and it was light enough to head out so that’s exactly what we did. We didn’t even get 1/2 mile west of Great Gun Beach when we saw some birds working. The guys made some casts and we had 2 fish on in seconds.
After that we saw some more birds working west and chased the birds all the way down to Smith Point with no luck any where we stopped. So I decided to right back to where we had caught the 1st Bass and this proved to be the best move of the day. From there on we picked Bass on 3 oz White Blue Frog Buck Tails with Yellow Josh.
Every Time we passed the X on my GPS we pick up another fish it was great as for all the radio talk was where the fish??? We worked that spot and had a total of 12 Bass 7 keepers 2 shorts and 3 that were REALL BIG and Spit the hook Half way through the fight. The guys were so happy they didn’t mind not landing that 8th fish but I gave it an extra hour or so just to fill our quota. In the end we landed the 2 shorts so they called it a day and when we got to the inlet it looked like BUMPER BOATS I’m so glad we were all by our selves catching Fish. Heard east of the inlet had Blues in 55′ of water we did NOT see a Blue Fish yesterday Thank God
. Water temp was 57/58 warm a sunny with a SE wind 5 to 10 mph.
JUST AN AWESOME DAY THE BASS ARE BITING NOW IS THE TIME CALL CAPT.PAUL 631-399-2400

The Noreast Black Fish Trip on the Celtic Quest
Headed down to Port Jefferson NY for our annual Noreast Black Fish trip aboard the Celtic Quest. This Charter gets all the regulars Posters on www.Noreast.com together for a great day of Fishing, Food and Fun. This year there was so many people that wanted to go we had to take 2 boats
. This made everyone crazy as to which boat they were on and who will be fishing with who? In the end it all worked out real nice as both boats weren’t over crowded and we fished kind of near one another. On the 1st drop I landed a Big Tog (Blackfish) I was happy for I knew that my spot was going to be hot. See It’s always a good Idea to where the Transducer(Sonar fish finder) is located on any boat. Especially if your fishing with 37 guys and the pool money is over $1,000 bucks. That’s why I always choose the spot right out the Port side cabin door for I know the Transducer is right in line with my spot. So when the Captain is setting up over the rig I have an advantage
. This is not always a full proof method for I did not win the pool but I came in third and have won the pool a few times before.
Another good tip is to ready when the Captain blows the whistle to drop your lines in, as me and the guy next to me hooked up as soon as the lines hit the bottom and after that the boat only picked a few more off that wreck. By the second drop I had 3 Keepers in my bucket and biggest fish so far . We made a few more drops and Scott directly across from me on the Starboard size lands a HUGE Tog and tied for 1st place with Vince and split the monies. Good idea the scale was dead even check out the pics below
By the end of the day the fishing started to pick up and I landed a total of 5 keepers and tied for high hook. In between drops we feasted like Piggies on Joe B Fishing FAMOUS RIBS. Now if you never had any of Joe’s Ribs you are missing out. They have become so sort after that they did not last 5 minutes 2 full trays gone
. Looked like a blitz on ribs lol. There was so much good food from Lasagna, shrimp Ka-Bobs, Hero’s and much more than we could ever eat and Drink. It always a great trip I’m Glad I went and thank you Glen (Canny) for putting this together and a big thank you to Capt.Chris and Capt.Desi for running a great charter and the mates were always Johnny on the spot when ever we needed them. If your looking to do a Black Fish Trip I highly recommend The Celtic Quest www.celticquestfishing.com tell them Pablo sent ya
Bass Still Biting
After the past couple of days of RED HOT FISHING!!! I got a call from Capt.Adrian and he brought down 1 Dozen Eels and off we went. We got there just as the tide was starting to head out. There was about 25 boats all ready there with the same idea
. On our very 1st drift Adrian lands the above fish
. This is great looks like its going to be another slam Fest
. Not the case it was SLOW and we didn’t land another fish. We did see a few come up but the boat Traffic scared them away. You can’t win them all at least we got a Nice big Keeper. Good Friend Capt.Chris on his 1st drift lands another 25 lbs Striper right next to us
… Good Going Chris
.
Well I still have 12 eels in my well guess I have to go back tonight who else wants to go???

Moriches After Dark
Sorry for the Bad Pictures but my camera doesn’t take good night time pictures.
Yesterday Afternoon Good Friend Capt.Chris calls me and says, whats up with the fish? I tell him Dave and I had them real good in the AM, I bet they will be biting there Heads off tonight I say 8 to 9 PM. Capt.Chris says, Really? Lets GO! I tell him I only have 6 eels and I am tired from AM trip so I can’t stay out late. No problem Capt.Chris says I was working hard all day and besides I have to be home to watch Dancing with the stars
. We both laughed and said yeah lets not jinx ourselves, lets just go and wet a line, oh yeah in joy the night air
.
So I met Capt.Chris at the Secret Dock with my eels and we pushed off 8:30 pm… When we got to the inlet there was 12 boats drifting all ready and I told Capt.Chris to go where we had them in the AM. No sooner then we start our 1st Drift, Capt.Chris says Oh yeah I’m on!!! He lets the fish run a little then sets the hook!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!! Goes his 40 Year old T.S.S. rod and reel combo. Whats a T.S.S. rod and reel you ask? Well TSS was and old store kind of like Modells today. Sold a little bit of everything and this is what Capt.Chris was fishing with LOL!!!
The Rod and Reel Performed falwlessly and I reel up fast and grab the Net. When the fish gets close I say to Chris, OMG!!! THAT WON’T FIT IN THIS NET??? I grab the Leader and try to guide the Big Cow into th net. SHIT!!! It won’t fit!!! Good thing I had these new gloves on they are water proof and have a really good grip because I grab the fish in the mouth SQUEEZE REAL HARD and swing her into the boat
YES MISSION ACCOMPLISHED on the 1st Drift!!! Now we look at the fish and she has a Remora on her. Whats a Remoura? A Remora fish attaches itself to other large eating fish and eats the scraps from the larger Fish. Heres what the Wikipedia says about Remora’s.
“Remoras are commonly found attached to sharks, manta rays, whales, turtles, and dugong (hence the common names sharksucker and whalesucker). Smaller remoras also fasten onto fish like tuna and swordfish, and some small remoras travel in the mouths or gills of large manta rays, ocean sunfish, swordfish, and sailfish.
The relationship between remoras and their perfect hosts is most often taken to be one of commensalism, specifically phoresy. The host they attach to for transport gains nothing from the relationship, but also loses little. The remora benefits by using the host as transport and protection and also feeds on materials dropped by the host. There is controversy whether a remora’s diet is primarily leftover fragments, or the feces of the host. In some species (Echeneis naucrates and E. neucratoides) consumption of host feces is strongly indicated in gut dissections.[4]For other species, such as those found in a host’s mouth, scavenging of leftovers is more likely. For some remora and host pairings the relationship is closer to mutualism, with the remora cleaning bacteria and other parasites from the host.”
And heres my Pictures of it.
In the picture above the Remora attached itself to Capt.Chris’s Hand. This did not hurt him for they don’t have any teeth but it did creep Chris out a little for it wouldn’t easily come off LOL !!! I said to Chris well now your going to have to keep you hand in a big bowl of salt water where ever you go LOL!!! But it finally let go and we sent it back to go find another host.
Ok so we went back did 4 more drifts and produced 3 more fish . Each of us caught 2 a piece and we decided to head in for we limited out and did not want to miss Dancing with the STAR’S ahahahahahahaha!!!
NOW IS THE TIME TO GO !!! CALL 631-399-2400
