Bass Blitz Along the Beach Sunday

Capt.Paul with one of Many from that day

Sunday woke up early and saw that the wind died down. I decided to go and I’m glad I did. I hit the Inlet at 1st light and was 1 of the few boats there. I started to drift Live Eels, and before i knew it there was 25-50 boats all over the inlet. Looked like a parking lot. The Out going tide just started and made the mouth of the inlet rough. I saw about 4 bass come up and was taking a beating catching 0. by 7 am ish I have had enough and was ready to call it another day when, I made an extra long drift out the mouth of the inlet. I looked around far down the beach i saw several surf casters lined up on the shore. Now this is usually a very good sign for Surf casters don’t fish where there’s no fish. I jumped down into my cabin grabbed my Binoculars and looked down the beach. I saw a ton of birds diving and said Lets go it go to be better than here.

The Blitz

Heading to the Blitz

Once I got there I saw Bass leaping out of the water I casted my A-27 Diamond Jig and was immiately  hooked into a keeper Striped Bass. Once I reeled him in I put the call out to fellow fisherman Codi who also drifting the inlet nada not having much luck too. He cam shooting over and we both had a great time catching one after another after another.

My 1st Albie from the Surf!!!

Capt.Paul and His Albie from the Surf

Happy Columbus Day Everyone! It was a great Columbus Day for me I landed my 1st ever Albie from the Surf  !!! That’s right, the Surf! I Opted out of my boat and put on the waders and headed to the Shore. I did everything wrong I slept late, Ate breakfast, took a shower and leisurely drove to the Shore. This is so opposite from the way I usually go fishing. Get up 4:45 am on the boat by 5:30 and fishing at 1st light with a BIG cup of Joe in my hand . I get down to the water and there’s a handful of guys casting away not much going on. This one young man fishing next to me landed his 1st ever Fish and it was an Albie. Everyone cheered him on while he battled the fish, his grandfather was very happy. I should have took a picture but I didn’t want to be intrusive.

So there I am 11 am with the bright sun in the sky. It’s warm out I’m wearing a short sleeve shirt and I am comfortable. After about 1 hour of casting and only 2 Albie’s landed I see a Blitz just out of casting range and it’s moving toward shore . I see the guy closest to the school hook up then the guy next to me hooks up I know I’m next and BAM ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Whoa this ones really pulling hard and made 2 good runs. Now were in this dead lock where the fish and the angler is trying to get the upper hand. All of a sudden the fish heads for the shore and I’m reeling as fast as I can to keep up. For a second there, I thought I lost her, then she makes a easternly move and starts taking all my line again crossing over two guys lines.  OH NO I’m gonna lose it. The two guys are really good about it and easily remove there lures with no trouble at all. I pulled the fish in and they even took my picture for me . We talked for a while after we were all done swapping Ideas and tackle used to catch these speed demons.

After that one I made several casts but things slowed I saw a total of 7 caught and released. I was the only one that kept 1. They make the best Shark Bait .

3 Keepers Today

3 Keeper Striper Bass

Dean Locke was the hot hand today scoring 2 of the 3 keepers and I was the other lucky angler to land a Keeper. Also with was was good friend John Luby, he landed a few just short of the 28″ keeper mark so back they went. We left the dock at 5:45 am and was the 1st boat to arrive on the scene this made a big difference as we had 2 keepers in the boat before the sun even came up. Once several boats showed and the sun began to shine the bite died to a slow pick of fish here and there was little flurries nothing big to report but 3 keepers are better than NONE  .

The Bass are Biting

After what seemed forever with all the rain, wind and rough seas I was finally able to get out today and hook up on some fish!!! I was suppose to head out with Carlos and Dan Singer but both of them bailed out on me. So good old Dean ended up going , still hung over from his recent trip to the Bahamas but he got his butt up and was rewarded with this keeper Bass. It wasn’t very big but hey I think the smaller ones taste better then the BIG COWS.

30" Keeper Bass

Speaking of COWS I hooked into a VERY LARGE BASS. We were using the big beef sticks, I only use them when the big girls are around and I hooked a Whopper! She ran 3 times with the drag cranked down and put up a good fight. About half way through the fight she popped off, It was the Striper’s, Lucky Day…

Striped Bass caught on a A-27 Diamond Jig with Green tube

I said some things I can not post here  and only managed a short Bass after that. The Blitz was very short lived at sunrise but the bait was so thick we marked it from 10′ to 60′ with so many birds and gannets diving all over. It was epic to say the least but no fish??? Dean and I stayed around till 9:30 then decided to head in and go to work.

Check out the Stomach content of this Bass.
