MISSOURI STRIPED BASS RECORD BROKEN BY ROOKIE ANGLER

Missouri State Record 60 lbs 2011

WHOLLY COW IS THAT FAT OR WHAT    ???

August 24, 2011 Rookie Angler Breaks Striped Bass State Record In Missouri

Just weeks after the striped bass world record was broken (unofficially), another striper record has bitten the dust (officially). In June, Bruce Cunningham, 30, landed this massive 60-pound 8-ounce striper on Missouri‘s Bull Shoals Lake, according to MDC News. Yesterday, the catch was approved as a state record by the MissouriDepartment of Conservation. The fish measured 47 inches in length and had a 36-inch girth.

Cunningham was out with his brothers on his first striper trip and was casting a large plastic minnow in about 40 feet of water. Cunningham and his two brothers had already boated several other large fish (40 pounders) before the record-breaker hit.

Interestingly, striped bass aren’t even supposed to be in Bull Shoals Lake, which sits along the Arkansas/Missouri border. They were stocked there on accident in 1998.

“We were expecting a shipment of walleye for Bull Shoals,” said Ken Shirley, district fisheries supervisor for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. “A summer helper called to tell us that a shipment of fish had arrived at the hatchery and asked where they were supposed to go. We thought it was the walleyes, so we told him to take them to Bull Shoals. It turned out they were striped bass.”

According MDC News, Shirley says the surviving fish from that stocking now weigh between 30 and 60 pounds and are slowly reaching the end of their life span. He says the boom in trophy striper fishing at Bull Shoals will taper off over the next five years as fish from the accidental stocking begin to disappear.

Enjoying what the Summer has to offer and getting ready for the fall

Great Gun Beach Aug 20 2011

The past couple of weeks I’ve been taking it easy enjoying what the Summer before its gone. Took the Kids to the Beach a couple of times they all had such a great time jumping off my boat and looking for Hermit crabs and swiming.

We had a really good time saw a bunch of people we haven’t seen in many years and relaxed as the sun went down on another great day. Then it was time to head home and enjoy some Surf and Turf eating at my good friend Cary Stevens Home.

Now to an Awesome time with some Surf and Turf . Good Friend Cary Stevens had a big Block Party and Invited us over for some real good BBQ and I supplied the Fresh Fish and he supplied the Venison Back Straps. We started off with some Pheasant, Duck and Venison Back Straps with some Garden Grown Tomato and Basil with Fresh Mozzarella. Oh man this was some of the Best Tomato and Basil I ever had not to mention the back straps. Cary used this Dry Rub Seasoning called African and Essence on the Duck and Pheasant. This was just some of the best eats I had all Summer.

We had some Long Island Blue Point Toasted Lager to wash it all down and I also brought some Fresh caught Striped Bass and Blue Fin Tuna as well. We ate in courses so we could enjoy it all day long.

The Kids got to play on this Giant Water Slide and there was a DJ playing Music all afternoon long

After that I got enjoy a Good Cigar and we called it a night after that. Thank you Cary and family for your kind hospitality  my family really enjoyed them selfs.

Lou and Son’s Get there Flukes

Dan and his 5 lbs Fluke

Headed out with Lou and his 2 son’s Dan and Nick for some Fluke Sea Bass trip. We decided on Tuesday afternoon trip due to the kid’s schedule and that it looked according to NOAA like the best Ocean day of the week. Well maybe the AM was good??? But we had a stiff 10-15 SW wind kicking up the ocean making it a ROCKY drift for these 1st time Flukers. Dan is 13 and his brother only 7, I thought we be making a short trip but these two boys did Lou Proud and weren’t scared or Quizey at all. They kind of liked it which surprised me.

Nick + Dan all Smiles

So I headed back to the exact same spot I had the keepers from Saturday and with a little guidance showed the boys how to catch a Fluke. Dan being the Duke of Doubts was saying “I never catch a fish”. “Every time I go on a Boat I never catch a fish” Lou and I paid no attention to him and he dropped his line down and it was like the Tootsie Roll commercial. How many bounces does it take to land a 5 lbs Fluke ah 1, ah 2, 3 Bam I can’t lift it!!! Reel you got a good one!!! When he got that fish in the boat everything changed, he went on to being the High Hook and Big Dog of the day. His Brother wasn’t far behind either landing a good 21″ keeper too and 4 Keeper Sea Bass. He was stoked as well and we fished for 2.5-3 hours totaling 20 flukes Constance action for both boys and Lou and I playing net and Bait boy

Lou + Nick

We brought our catch back and my sister cooked it up for us. Dan said “His fluke tasted the best” and Nick said “No my Sea bass is better”. I told them the best tasting fish are always the ones you caught your self

Dan + Nich Showing off there proud catch

Happy Family
