Top Water Blues, Sea Bass and Porgies

Had Good Friend Jay and his daughter Christiana out with Mia and I for some Top
Water Action in Moriches Monday Afternoon the Girls Both Landed HUGE blues to 12 lbs each and
were very happy with themselves.
Jay and I being the Good Dad’s said ok lets go
and the girls swam in the pool for a few hours. So the Next day at 5 am Jay
and I went back to find the Blues just sitting there finning themselves in the exact same location. I shot Great Video of out TOP WATER PLUGS being CRUSHED by those BLUES. It was GREAT. Then when we had our fill we anchored up and Jigged some Delicious Sea Bass and Porgies for a few hours.

$8,000 DOLLAR FLUKE!!!

Winning Fluke Men + Women Molnar's Fluke Shootout 6-25-2011

That’s Right the 8 lbs Fluke Above was valued at 1000 BUCKS PER POUND winning a total $8,000 DOLLARS.

I was in the Molnar’s Fluke Shootout Saturday June 25 2011. This is a Great Fluke tournament with Many Prizes,Food and Money Give Aways. Like the past couple of years I joined my good friend Steve Boyd and Dan Cooper out in Shinnecock NY looking for that Big Fluke to Win us the MONEY.

Steve Boyd Boat #11 Checking in

The Shotgun Started at 8 am and we were off like a bat out of Hell. Just as we were to round the inlet I see some Terns working by the bar. I say to Steve Hold Up lets get some fresh Blue Fish for Bait. On my 3rd cast i was into a nice blue and Ken also landed one. Even though I had brought 3 frozen ones the Fresh Blue Fish Stripes make a BIG difference with the fluke. Steve started off with the Spearing and Squid but i knew the Bluefish was the ticket and landed 2 shorts before I hooked my 3rd fish everyone had Bluefish as there Bait and began hooking up. We battled through Many Shorts like this one below.

This Year we were joined by Ken one of Steve’s other friends. This turned out to be a good thing because Ken Landed us this 5.5 lbs Fluke and but us in 5th place out of 50 boats…

Ken with his 5.5 lbs Fluke good for 5th Place

There were a Few Heart Breakers as the Legal Limit Size in NY is 20.5″ with several to 20″ that went back…. We also landed 2 Sea Bass now these are really good eats

Black Sea Bass

But as the day pressed on the Ocean didn’t produce many Keepers and as the 2pm
whistle blew we headed back to Molnar’s to see if we were in the MONEY?

Back at Mole’s I saw the biggest fish was 5.11 1/2 lbs and I knew we
were close I called Steve as he was headed to his home near by to change into
some shorts. Yo Steve get over here we could win this thing the biggest fish is
5.11 1/2 lbs. Steve made a U turn and just made the time as the weigh in was
over at 3:30 pm arriving at 3:20 lol. We were in 4th oh well 7 0z separated us
from $8,000 bucks but, then another big cooler was opened and the Big 8lbs Fluke was weighed in and all hopes of $$$ fizzled out for us. Oh well maybe in the next Shootout Aug 6 2011 we will be VICTORIOUS!!! Stay Tuned

BIG BASS FOR PABLO!!!

After Wednesday Night Bite I couldn’t wait to hit the water in my boat full stocked and Loaded with EVERY necessary thing to fight BIG STRIPERS!!! I headed right back to the spot we had them the night before to find nada so I headed east along the beach and found them right away. I snagged a Bunker and put it on the hook and Bam -O Blue fish ate it in 2 seconds did this again and Bam nice 23 lbs Bass. Then another Keeper size striper released it and then the Big Fight.

On the Big Bass what you didn’t see was he picked up my bunker ran a few feet and dropped it, then she made a second run longer this time and dropped it again. The 3rd run was huge and I knew I had her. I set the hook but no one home??? No wait something weird I feel oh She’s running towards the boat smart girl as soon as I caught up to her and as soon as she felt the hook set  she tore off like a plane veering away this would best describe it. She ran far and now I could see her all the way out and on top of the water heading for the 2 guys next to me boat. I yelled over to them to look out could you please move your boat? They did just in time and I still had the fish on thank God. Then the one guys line is now crossed with mine. OH COME ON I’m thinking this guys gonna pull and bye bye fish. I scream out don’t reel your crossed with me open your bail. I guess going to church works because he did and I was able to get the fish over to my boat.

Now I’m faced with getting this fish in quicklt before something else happens like running out of water as I was heading towards the beach. I decide to double grab the fishes mouth and pull her in. This works and I’m stoked this is a really big fish.

OH YEAH!!!

Official Weigh in 41.3 lbs Smith Point Bait + Tackle

23 Lbs Striper

15 lbs Released

Thank you to the guys next to me for helping me out and doing the right thing when another guy is on a fish. I later found out the guys name was Steve Curry Thanks again Steve

BIG Blues for Mama, Steve gets his Striped Bass

Wednesday June 8 2011 Had Capt.Adrian Out from 5 am to 7 Am we had 3 Stripers with 1 keeper and a few Blues back to dock by 8 AM off to Work 9 am

Ok it’s been a while since I posted on my site sorry been busy out fishing and work too. So let me give you the quick updates Last Thursday June 9 went out with Chris (Codi Jones) we hit the water at 1st light to find bluefish all over the place. We decided to head west looking for those BIG BASS that are on the way to Moriches. We didn’t find any Big Stripers but, I did find that every spot all the way down towards Smith Point where I had Stripers in the fall are still alive and loaded with Sand eels  and full of Bluefish. So on the way back I decided to stop at one of my spots in 74′ of water and try Fluking for it was 1 year ago to the day I had an 8lbs Fluke at this very same spot. We set up shop when all of a sudden we hear a big SPLASH! We quickly look around and I see a Huge Fin? My 1st reaction was Mako Shark but in another minute I see a Huge Blue fin Tuna Leap out of the water. We both yell out Tuna and fly right over to the spot where they were I cast my line a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

Well after that we chased them for 2 hours flying up to them and hooking up on 2 more Monster Bluefish but no Tuna. So no Tuna or Stripers for us…. The next day another friend goes out and he had the same thing Tuna and Big Bad Blues all over. So after hearing that I decided not to run out on Friday Night BIG MISTAKE! For the 1st wave of Big Stripers came through and another friend had 20 to 40 lbs Stripers from 5pm till dark he said as many as they could catch. Anyway Sat was a wash out with rough seas and rain. Which Brings me back to Kat’s day out.

So Sunday Afternoon the wind lies down and the ocean has Big Rollers but nothing bad so i tell her lets go looking for those big Stripers. We set out and Find those Chopper Blues in the inlet again and no Stripers. It’s rocky and bumpy so we didn’t stay long. However I noticed so much bait traveling into the back bay it was insane as you could see the sand eels squiggling in the water it was Gin clear.

Kat Fighting a BIG BLUE

Kat and A Big Blue she threw it back

mine was 36" long est weight 12 lbs

So you get the point then On Monday afternoon I get a call from Steve Boyd let’s go 5 pm I say the evening bite been good.  When we get there I see nothing outside the ocean is flat like a lake again and the inlet is full of bait and BIG BLUES are all over again. Steve and i battle through the Big Blues and manage to stay real close to the bottom and Pick up 3 Keeper Stripers on 2.5oz Yellow/White Blue Frog Bucktails with Yellow josh. We were glad to pick through the blues and were back to the dock by 8PM filleting our catch. I’m glad We went Steve good times and not many boats
