Mia and her BIG Fish!!!

Mia and her BIG Fluke

The weather outside couldn’t have been nicer and I was anxious to get out on the water. I was thinking of netting some fresh baits and having them for tomorrows am trip.

I was speaking to Jay and he said I help you Pablo but I have to go pick up my daughter off the bus 1st. I said I’ll tell you what you go get your daughter and I’ll go get mine and we will cast Net some bunkers and try for some Fluke in the west cut.

Headed up 1 of the creeks netted about 25 Peanut Bunkers just before dark and set off to the west cut. 1st drift Mia had a good hit but set the hook to early and no fish. 2 more drifts later this time the rod was in the holder I see the line coming off so I yell to Mia better go check your rod BAM fish on BIG FAT 23″ Fluke :) Man were the kids Excited. We made 1 more drift it was getting dark and we were all hungry, ok lets go to the Chinese place for Fluke Sesame! YEAH Daddy lets go! There wasn’t a crumb left as Kristiana and Mia ate the whole thing ;)

BIG BAITS, BIG FISH !!!

After reading the Marine Forecast for this week I said I better go out Monday
cause the rest of the week doesn’t look so good with 15 to 20 mph SOUTH winds
are in the forecast according to NOAA. This makes the South Shore not the place
to be as the Ocean in Moriches will get Kicked up.

I headed out 6 am with good friend Jay. I went back to my Favorite spot where
I been have great sucess cast netting bunker. Here’s a picture of my 1 throw
from Sunday, from the DOCK I was able to fill a 5 Gallon Bucket WHOLY
COW!!!

Bunker in the Cast Net

But that wasn’t the case on Monday? The fish were there I could see them and I
think they could see me?? It was difficult to get the net on them but I did
manage about 12 Peanuts and 1 Baby Weakfish seen here below Baby Weakfish

So off to the Moriches Inlet we went. The Ocean was FLAT CALM and I saw
a huge Pod of Bunker right past the bar. I wasted no time at all and headed
straight over to see adult Bunkers being Harrasted by Big Fish explosions
everywhere. I was getting all pumped up with thought of Huge Cow Bass like I had
in June and July. This was short lived as we both snagged our bunker and in 3.5
seconds eaten by VARICIOUS BIG BLUES sometimes 3 or 4 at a time would go after
your baits. We worked the different school along with 3 other boats from the
Inlet to the Smith Point Beach but all we could catch was 10 to 15 lbs Blues. I
mean don’t get me wrong they fight hard and all but we were looking for
Strippers and there were none to be found today in Moriches. So we caught about
25 of these Monsters till we lost every Bunker Snag I had in my boat and called
it quits at noon

How to Throw a Cast Net and use the Live bait to Catch Fish

It’s been a while since  I’ve been out on the water and it sure felt great to get back out there and catch some fish.  I took my boat out of the water because of Hurricane Irene  and I’m glad I did because we had some serious flooding and damage along the south shore of Long Island.

Double Tap Big Fluke for Pablo

Well Now I’m back in and I’m happy to report that the bay is Thriving with life. I headed up one of the many creeks and canals we have and found tons of juvenile bunker I like to call Pea Nut Bunker. With 1 throw of my 8′ Betts cast net I was able to fill my well with about 30 to 40 Pea Nut Bunkers and was off to the Inlet.

I made several drifts but only landed 2 small Blues. I tried out side in the ocean but the breakers were rough and just not worth it so I decided to drift the Bay for Fluke. I was fishing 6 to 20′ of water but mostly less than 10′ of water. The total for the day was 3 flukes 2 keepers 26″ 5 lbs and 23″ also the 3rd one was 20.25″ and went back…

I also had my Favorite Chinese Food Place make me some Fluke Sesame which is Out of this world.

Good even better than Striped bass Sesame Wow did I just say that???

Fluke Sesame OMG GOOD!!!

Good to be back on the water.
