Happy Turkey Day for Pablo

Pablo's Turkey Bass

Woke up today 5AM and saw No Wind, I quickly text Jr cause it’s Thanksgiving Day and it’s been a Tradition on that day we fish. Today my calls and Texts went unanswered ??? I went down to the Ocean to see the conditions for myself. To my Surprise the North wind calmed the Ocean and it looked good. I kept calling him and got to the boat and dilly dallied around to waste some time but still no call back 6:30-6:45 so off I went.  It was end of incoming tide so I made a few casts and Bam Fish on it was small but still I was happy NO SKUNK for Pablo :) .

After that 1 Striper it got quiet and I moved around a bit looking for a few fish but NADA. All of a sudden I get a call from Jr around 7:30 AM I told him He broke the TRADITION he said he went out Surf Casting last night with 7 other guys and No fish, it was cold and he was too tired to get up. While I was on the phone with him the birds started to show up and I quickly told him I had to go… Has I caught each Fish I made sure to post it on Facebook and send him text messages just to rub it in HE BROKE TRADITION lol.

I ended up catching 10 Stripers nothing big but a few teen size fish keeping 1 33″ releasing the rest. All fish were caught on 1.5 oz Bluefrog Bucktails with Red Uncle Josh Trailer. Back at the dock I found some Interesting things in the stomach.

Can You Identify this? The Middle one is tuff and it’s not a squid it has a Skeleton, some kind of fish. Also cut out the row of the fish. Not sure if I could eat it but maybe ??? It doesn’t look so appetizing? What you think would you eat it???

Striped bass Row could you eat it?

Well It was getting late and I could Smell the Turkey Cooking so I flew home hoped in the shower and off to Grandmothers house we go.

And Finally in other News I have my 1st Jar of Herring in the refrigerator, Oh how I love that stuff :)

Well tomorrow is Black Friday, this is what I want to see on Black Friday.

Pablo's Black Friday ;)

Good News the Striped Bass are Back !!!

Semi Chow with her 1st Ever keeper Striper

1st I would Like to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone !!!

Headed out with Good Friends Peter park and his Girl Semi Chow. I heard the Bite was back on so we headed out early 6AM. We were the 1st Boat to greet a Birds and Bass all over. 1st one was a Throw Back but the 2nd was was a Keeper. Check out Semi’s Video

The east wind Picked up right away and with the out going tide made the breakers a little rough so we fished the back side but wasn’t able to SAFELY get close enough for my liking. I spotted some Gannets diving out in about 40′ of water and headed over. Semi Hooked up on a A-67 Diamond Jig with Green tube to a HUGE blue it wore the poor girl out lol.

Semi's BIG BLUE

After that the sea’s picked up from 2 to 4′ to 3 to 5′ and made it a bit uncomfortable so we headed in to try some back bay spots but had no luck at them. Also saw a Beautiful Sunrise

Thing are picking up all over has I hear reports that Big Fish are being caught. Now the time to get back out there. Let’s Hope for some BIG TURKEYS STRIPERS tomorrow and the next few days

Striped Bass Weekend Update

Nice 34" in Back Bays of Moriches Nov 2 2011

After Celebrating my Mom’s 70th Birthday with a Blackfish Dinner prepared by the Manor House I had to drop them off at the airport in the AM. So after I came back I had to get gas for Sundays charter so I headed out late about 9:30 am. I wasn’t expecting much but I stopped at one of my Local bay Spots and on the 1st Cast hooked into a Nice 36″ Bass. It faught hard for the size and I thought it was Bigger but I was happy to land anything. I quickly moved back up to the same spot and landed a 28″ Bass that went back and had 1 more hit but didn’t come tight. So by 11 AM I filled up at the gas dock and headed home.

Happy Birthday Mom

OH MAN IT SURE WAS GOOD

Sunday's Nov 6 34" Bass

Saturday's 36"

Bucktails were the trick as all fish this weekend were caught with a 1.5 oz Blue Frog Green/White with Yellow Uncle Josh Pork Rind. Now Sunday’s charter I of course headed staright back to some of my favorite Bay spots and Bill hooked into a big fish it gave him so long runs and half way through it popped off Oh man that was heart breaking but we continued on. The next location is where I landed the Fat 34″ but that was it for the bay. As the Sun rose we headed to the inlet and found the Mother Load of fish all over the bar. Everyone Hooked up with a Fish but they were all under sized fish although there were many it wasn’t what we were looking for and I moved around a bit untill about 50 other boats anchored up right in the way and the breakers were just a bit large as 1 unlucky guy got swamped and my Good Buddy Chris Buren saved him and his dog. Sea Tow was called and he and his boat was towed in. I missed the photo op for we headed back inside to look for more larger fish. I tried all over even going back to the spots we had them just a few minutes ago but no one was home so we headed back to the dock at noon and sent them home with the fish. I bet there was larger fish on the bar but it just wasn’t worth the risk. I’m heading back out Monday am hopefully the fish will be a bit larger.

Crabs and Manta Shrimp were in the Bellies

The Fall Run will continue to get better and better call me before its too late

BIG BASS 28 lbs Durring the Storm Sat Oct 29 2011

with the pending Big Nor’easter coming I made the 5 AM call to try a sneak a trip in before the heavy rain and wind. Sent a few messages out had Neil respond and Jr on stand by. Jr who just the other day landed that BIG 26 lbs Striper was surf fishing from the east Jetty all night long with No luck. I tried to get him to come but he was up all night and either too tired or just didn’t think the fish were there because it was a SLOW night??? Anyway I just wanted him to know that he had the 3rd spot that day ;)

Neil and I (Pablo) tried several spots again in the bay but not a tap. We were 1 of 3 boats when we hit the inlet at 1st light. Headed straight for the exact spot with Kat. Looked Very promising Birds all over Gannets diving oh I got excited seeing Gannets slamming the water. Whats a Gannet you say? It’s a bird the dives from high altitude slams into the water completely submerges it self and catches bait fish. They look like small Kamakazi’s. They usually mean there’s blitzing Stripers around but not today they were sporadically hitting the water and we investigated a few spots but no fish???

The wind started to HOWL and the ocean was getting snotty so I said lets go back into the bays and work the areas we saw all the bait in. Just then jr calls from the jetty go to the spot I’m telling you go to the spot… So I Went to the spot lol.

we had a severe wind against tide situation. It was like we were fishing on anchor with a ripping incoming tide and North wind. This actually was a good thing for it held us in the strike zone till the fish showed up. This took a while for the drifts were SLOW and LONG with out nothing to show for our efforts.

Then just around 9 AM we were just about to give up as the rain just started to come down when my reel started to scream and my line was zipping out. I set the hook HARD, Pablo On!!!

Now Thats what I'm Talking about 28 lbs Bass

The fish fought HARD and we were getting close to shore for we caught her in 8′ of water. Neil slowly moved the boat away from the shore and I was able to fight the fish but the current made this 28 lbs fish feel like 100 lbs and every inch was a battle. Now I see were getting to close to the buoy and I had to have Neil move the boat again. I told him to go forward slow and I was in danger of losing my fish as she could get easily tangled around the buoy. I decided to hold my thumb on the reel not allowing and line to come off, I knew this would stress the line and knots out but it was my only choice so I did it. We only had to move a couple of feet so it wasn’t that much stress and I was then able to get the fish to the net and Neil did a FANTASTIC job helping me land this fish. If I was alone I probably would have lost her. Check out the pics

I got a BIG MOUTH

After that we re set and Neil had a fish on nothing big but a keeper hey on that day any fish was good lol. We rest again and had 2 short run offs, never getting the chance to set the hooks. The rain started to come down heavy now and we decided to call it a day. Thank God for the cabin I felt sorry for those center console guys. Back at the dock we took several pics and busted out the rain gear as it POORED down on me while I cut the fish. I was nice and dry underneath my grundens and did a good job on the filets. Stomach contents showed a Fluke and some sand eels.

Montauck Albie Fishing with Captain Adrian Mason and Angelo Peluso

Was invited out with Capt.Adrian Mason of www.AlphaFishing.Com and his new boat.
Fished along side Cousin ;) Angelo Peluso for some very Lock Jaw Albies.
Capt.Adrian lead the way and hooked up 1st into a Nice Albie. The Bait was so
tiny it was hard to match the hatch. We all were throwing extra small flies and
Angelo landed a nice albie towards the end of the day. I (Pablo) landed 3 blues
and 1 short bass tough but all the boats were having a hard day of Albie
fishing. Thats how it goes last weekend Adrian had over 40 plus Albies today 1.
It was great to fish with Angelo again and christine Adrians new boat. BEST OF
LUCK BUDDY !!!
